Christos S. Zerefos born in Cairo, Egypt, graduate in Physics from the University of Athens, MSc in Meteorology and Ph.D. in Physics-Meteorology, University of Athens (1973). Post Doctoral researcher, National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and other Research Institutions in Greece and abroad. Professor of Atmospheric Physics at the Universities of Thessaloniki and Athens (1973-today), Visiting Professor at the Universities of Boston and Minnesota, Samarbeidspartnere, University of Oslo. Member of the Academy of Athens, the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Academia Europaea, the International Academy of Astronautics, and other international research Institutions. Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK) and Life Member of the American Geophysical Union (USA). Laureate, Global Ozone Award (1997), Honourable Mentions from the UNEP (1995-1998), Award Certificate and Letter from UNEP and from IPCC (2008) for his substantial contribution to the reports of IPCC (he worked as review editor of Chapter 5 of the IPCC Aviation Report in 1998), Honorary Mention from the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, the European Physical Society, Great Master Archon of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, Gold Medal of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Silver Medal of the Technical University of Kalamata, his proposal for the National Observatory has granted the 2010 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Award. His total published work comprises of about 200 research papers in peer reviewed scientific journals. His work has been acknowledged from the scientific community with more than 3500 citations. Has participated in most of the WMO / UNEP Ozone Assessments for the Montreal Protocol as author and/or as review editor. Expert in atmospheric and environmental physics. Holder of the UNESCO Chair for Natural Disasters, President elect of the International Ozone Commission (IO3C) of IAMAS of ICSU, f. President of the National Observatory of Athens, President of the Greek National IUGG Committee, Director of the Atmospheric Environment Division of the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens and Supervisor of the Research Center for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology of the Academy of Athens and other national and international fora.

- The Research Center for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology at the Academy of Athens (1978) in collaboration with late Professor E. Mariolopoulos.
